Summer Show 2009
Report on the Summer Show 2009

As those of you who attended will know, the Annual Summer Show
on the 23rd of August was a success. The show’s success was primarily
due to the usual high standard of the exhibits from a relatively small
band of regulars without whom we would not have a show. Many thanks to
all of you and I hope we can maintain your numbers and your support.
The success of the show is also due in no small part to the
team of volunteer helpers, ably recruited and organised by Betty and
Graeme. A very BIG thank you to all of you – I won’t embarrass you by
naming names. To my mind three aspects are particularly worthy of
mention. The first is the very hard work put in by Betty and her
catering team to provide the delectable range of refreshments provided –
such a pity more of you didn’t come to the Show and get the chance to
sample them. The second is that for the first time in many years we had
enough stewards to assist the Judges. I hope you all enjoyed the
experience and will volunteer again next year. And finally, the good
response to our request for helpers to dismantle the show, tidy up the
venue and transport “stuff” back to the store. Instead of a pile of show
paraphernalia in the school car park awaiting transport at the 6pm
“clear the building” deadline, we had it all loaded and on its way to
the store by five to six.
At this point I usually exhort more of you to support our
future shows. Let’s take that as read. Instead I would appreciate your
suggestions on any changes to the schedule which, in your opinion, would
encourage more of you to enter. I would particularly appreciate
suggestions of new themes or titles for some of the handicraft classes,
items in the cookery classes – especially suitable new recipes and any
ideas that would encourage entries in the “children’s” classes. I would
appreciate suggestions by the end of December as we will be meeting in
early January to generate the Schedule for next years Summer Show.
